If we loved before death, it does not instantly stop once they are gone. The memory is there and some try to hold on to it as long as possible.

The word "try" in your question troubles me....
I believe that once we truly love someone, that love stays forever, and it doesn't die with that person disappearing....
I will always remember the feelings I got through people I've known in the past and therefore those people will always stay with me, no matter whether they moved or passed away.....

Vanity. We can't believe that we pumped all this emotional energy into someone and now their gone and we wasted our time and our cleverness on someone who left us for the grave!
There are some great Maxims about this by La Rochefoucauld, inclouding a classic about why women weep at funerals.

I lost my Mom to cancer when I was 12. ((I am now 16.)) I loved her more than life itself, and her leaving doesn't just take those feelings away. I like to believe that they'll always be there, because she'll always be in my heart.

What do you mean by "try?" Either we loved them while alive, and we love their memory, or we didn't love them while alive, and maybe those who "try" to love them after they die are doing so out of guilt.

They don't come back once passed, but their remembrance does, hence, what V do's love their memory, not the people.
A good Qstn.
