Breastfeeding burns calories. Over 600 calories a day for breastfeeding women who don't supplement with formula. 600 calories! That's like getting two hours of aerobic exercise each day. A study published in the Journal of American Dietician Association shows breastfeeding melting off inches around your hips and buttocks.
so yeah it's probably true =)

Breast feeding burns a lot of calories. In fact she'll get back to her pre-pregnancy weight faster with breast feeding than she would with a 5 mile jog a day. It burns calories because she's constantly producing milk. Her body uses all the excess nutrients, proteins, vitamins, and fats for milk production. So not only is she doing something great for her baby, but she's also doing something great for herself.

I lost all of the weight I'd gained in pregnancy plus 10 extra pounds in 12 months after having my baby. I never dieted, in fact, I ate plenty of "bad" foods (ie sugary, fatty stuff like cake, cookies, etc). I hardly even excercised (I would walk here and there around town a couple of times a week). I atrubute my easy weight loss totally to breastfeeding. :D
Of couse breastfeeding ueses calories, since the breastmilk itself contains about 22 calories per oz! Most bf babies take about 25 oz of breastmilk in an average day, so think about how many calories that mom has to use up just to produce all that milk! No wonder many breastfeeding moms say they always feel hungry!
Of course, not every breastfeeding mom looses weight that easily, but statisitally speaking, most breastfeeding moms have an easier time loosing thier pregnancy weight than moms who do not breastfeed.

Absolutely!
Think of it this way: Ultimately, the baby is "eating", or at
least getting its calories from the food the mother eats.
Since babies require a huge amount of calories to survive,
those are calories that the mother isn't able to use for
her growth processes - and if she isn't consuming
appropriately more food, then her calories are going to come
from her stored fat.
Of course, if she is breast feeding, she'll be more hungry
and should ultimately want to eat more. If she doesn't, then
the calories will have to come from somewhere - in this case,
from her body fat.

This is really true...breast milk is being made in the body and your body burns major calories making this wonder-food for the baby...so it's only natural this will take a lot out of the body...It's also a wonderful perk after gaining all the pregnancy weight i think!!

She is loosing weight because of the breastfeeding. You body burns an extra 500 calories a day because it is hard work making milk for you baby. The more milk you produce the more weight you will loose. Most doctors will recommend that you eat an extra 500 calories a day so that you don't loose weight!

It is not "breastfeeding" but for the body to make milk it expends a whole lot of resources including calories... Mothers who breast feed go back to normal weight (or even slim down) quite fast compared to mothers who don't even if eating a whole lot more than normal.

Breastfeeding burns between 200-500 calories per day, sometimes more (if breastfeeding twins or tandem nursing an infant and a toddler, for example). It burns calories because energy is needed to make the milk, and the milk itself contains energy for the baby.

What is the milk made of? Part of it is fat. Where does the fat come from? Your body. Do you see a connection? Your body takes fat in your body and uses it in the making of breast milk. that is why a woman will lose weight quicker than a woman that doesn't breast feed. There are other benefits to breast feeding as well.
