Should I try an over-the-counter sleep-aid med to try to ease the withdrawal effects? I'm 75 y/o and have had sleep difficulties for many years. The ambien was doing a great job but I hate to have the "addiction."

I would not quit cold turkey. you will require professional help. while not classified as a bdz like valium and xanax you certainly do not want to go throgh withdrawal symptoms. while i dont think you will go thru it at your age you have to be careful

This is a tough one. I wouldn't replace one with another. I would look into a drug dependancy program. 10 years is along time and getting off will be tough, they will help you with withdrawl, and get you off safely.

Don't detox on your own, ask your doctor.
