In Feb. 2005 I was attacked by a very violent man that tried to rape and kill me. I fought him off, and he got neither, though he did injure me when he beat me up. Not to mention the lasting emotional scars. My question is: why won't any lawyers take my case? (He was prosecuted and plead guilty to a sex crime). Does anyone know of any lawyers that would take the case?

He was not ordered at the time of sentencing to pay for my medical bills (ambulance, e.r. bill, etc). Since he was convicted, however, Victims' Services has paid my bills, and he has to repay them. I am not asking about bills; I want pain and suffering.

I am in the U.S. The lawyers I have contacted operate on no win, no pay basis. I do not have the money to pay for a lawyer, especially if I lose. I have no way of finding out if this man has any assets, or insurance. No one will tell me.

What reason are they giving you for not taking the case? I'm sure if you could pay for the attorney, they would take the case.

But if you're asking one to take it on contingency, the amount of recovery in damages is probably not worth the time required, even if you could collect from this now-convicted felon.

You don't saywhere you are. Law varies by country and state.

Assuming you are in the USA, you must have sought a lawyer to take the case on contingency fee basis. It seems wildly improbable that you were willing to pay, yet you could find no lawyer.

Unless the perpetrator has property or insurance, why would a lawyer take the case on contingency when there is little chance you or he would get any money?

We really need more facts.

He was processed and judged in criminal court, and if he was going to pay anything he would have been ordered to pay restitution at the time of sentencing. Nobody will go after him in civil court if he doesn't have any money. Find out if there is Victim's Services in your area, and if you can apply for Victim's Compensation.
