It used to be the rule that you never wore white after Labor Day, which basically meant you quit wearing summer colors and started wearing fall colors. When dressed up, you wouldn't wear white shoes or carry white purses. Then at Easter you wouldn't wear black shoes or carry black purses anymore. You'd lay off the fall/winter colors and go back to whites and pastels. It was just a fashion thing of the past.

Someone had too much time on their hands when they came up with that one. I wear what I want when I want and I don't let anyone dictate otherwise.
What are people in warmer climates supposed to do where it's warm year round and it doesn't get cold or snowy? Like Southern California, Arizona, Texas, etc. It doesn't make any sense for them to wear heavy fabrics just because everyone else in the country is doing so.

The only people who care about this are either looking for an old joke to put into a tv script or stuck-up people who also laugh at poor people for not wearing brand name.

A long time ago, in a place where it starts to snow in September, people had to walk from town to town. They got lost pretty easily. If they're wearing white, it's harder to find them. This is a theory. Then again maybe people it's because darker colors trap heat better and it starts to get cold in September.

I don't know why...I wear what I want, when I want. I think white pants - particularly on ladies - are cute :-) It doesn't look any less cute because it is after Labor Day.

White is a light, bright summer color. When fall arrives, it's time to move to heavier fabrics and muted tones.
