I nearly always do ( only at home of course!) and i am not embarrassed to admit it. If i forget to take a book or a magazine in with me I resort to reading the back of the shampoo bottle!!! It is just that i quite enjoy just sitting there ( plopping) and reading... it is like getting free time! So Do you ?

Hee hee, i have read 29 answers so far and have had a good response, thanks, and laughed a lot, glad you all took the question in a light hearted way... also i laughed at your references to my word "plopping" ...i thought it was in the dictionary!!! lol...
if you have never read on the toilet...try it, you will feel like someone just gave you a week off work! no one can tell you to come and do something when you say " i'm on the loo" ( or "i'm having a plop" ) when really you finished your plop ages ago but are enjoying your book or mag!
As for taking tea and coffee in, well i have done once or twice but only because i'd already made them and thought that they would be cold by the time i had read the lord of the rings trilogy on the loo, but i feel like there are germs landing in the cup... but it never did me any harm...
( at least my shrink tells me so!) lol

sometimes
when i know that I'll be in there long
that way i don't get bored of waiting
plus i always remember my doctor telling me that it is best to take something in with you to take your mind off the topic
that way you finish what you've started and you don't have to go back in any time soon
he told me that when you have to go back in at least 1 hour prior to when you went in the first place that means that you have not finished
SO YES IT DEPENDS ON HOW LONG I'LL BE STAYING IN MY HAVEN
lol

PLOP! PLOP! PLOP!
Love the reference to bodily functions!!!!!!!!
I think I just go into a trance when I'm on the loo, whether its number 1 or number 2. I don't have a book and I don't read shampoo bottles, I think I just sit and while away the time by day-dreaming.
Very often, either my hubby or my daughter will come in or shout at me to hurry up!!! How funny is this trait we all have.....
BTW, no, I could never take a drink or food in with me, the germs DO land in the cup!!

When my children were a bit younger, going to the loo was my only free time so I would lock the door, light a cigarette, pick up a book and get on with the job in hand. If the book was really good I would often get through two cigarettes and only leave to break up a fight or to stop one of the children having an "accident".

Happy memories, thank you for the question!

Yes, I must confess for this might b useful to some. Apart from an in detail regional map, I usually have my favourite charts and newspaper cuttings plastered to the walls of my bathroom toilet that I read at the times of my leisure. The are usually chart sized brochures and scientific posters. I like reading while I am out and about going places anyway. I think some mags and postersmake a jolly good wallpaper stuff.

LOL i am glad i am not the only one who reads on the loo. I agree it is the only time you get any peace. I have just started to tell my 5yr old that when mummy is on the loo it is private time just so i can have a few minutes to myself, ummmm thinking about it i could just go and do that and not really go to the loo but have a quick read. I always leave something in there to so i don't have to grab anything on my way, its already there. Not once has anyone who has been to my loo asked what a magazine is doing in there so i guess lots and lots of peeps do it they just don't tell.

Almost every time! I read shampoo bottles if there's nothing else. Some people think it's strange, I don't think it's a problem. I put the magazine down before I clean up and wash my hands so it's not like it's dirty. Mind you, I have a friend who uses the telephone whilst on the toilet. Now that is disgusting!!!

In my house everyone reads on the loo!! We actually have a space for books and magazines....and the all important pen for doing them arrow words!! It's like getting divine inspiration on the bog!! The answers just flow from the old brain! One member of my family could be gone missing for 40 minutes! When we go looking for her, we always check the old watering hole first! And 10 times outta 10....there she is!

I don't stay in there that long, however, my husband does his best reading in there.

He keeps magazines and books on the back of the toilet. If none of those are handy, he will read the back of the kleenex box or whatever is at hand. He says that because they are such quick reads, he will try reading them upside down, then he will turn the box sideways and read with one eye closed....then he does the other eye.

I think he spends too much time in there and so do our kids.

We only have one bathroom.

I do the exact same thing when it comes to nothing to read: i either grab the shampoo bottle or face wash and read it. (who really raises, lathers, and REPEATS??). I always try to have a book, maybe one that i have read before because if it gets good i know i would just stay on the toilet all day. I just in case I have a puzzle book it like word cross but everything is blank and you have to figure out how the words fit in the puzzle. It is free time.
