Not necessarily. Look at my Question from Friday 'Why cant I clear my name?' I work with children and thankfully still do. Use the words remonstrated, rather than argued, or self defence instead of I hit him back because etc... Good luck, Ive been there and survived; above all talk about your feelings!!!

Ok... all those that say that they can't suspend you for what you do off duty are not using their head! If that were true, employers would not be able to fire you if you fail your drug test (they would have to prove that you are using on the job). The reasoning behind being able to suspend or terminate your employment based on what you do outside of work is that it is VIEWED (don't jump down my throat, I don't make the rules) as an indicator of how you may conduct yourself on the job. For example, many companies will run a credit and background check on you before you are hired and when you get promoted. This is to make sure that there are no indicators that you may have a problem that may affect your on the job performance and behaviour. Since you work with children, any sort of violent behaviour can negatively affect your career. What will actually happen to you entirely depends upon the curcumstances of your particular case.

Was it serious? Was it your spouse? If so, then you are in jeopardy of losing your job. Is the person pursuing charges with the district attorney? If they are then you may just have to wait to see how the case is resolved. It also depends on your past work history and if you have ever done this before and whether or not you work with this person. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

If you are unfortunate enough to be prosecuted for your actions outside of work, and subsequently receive a conviction, you will almost certainly lose your job I'm afraid.

Most likely and rightly so you have showed you are capable of violence and let yourself go out of control. You are not safe to work with children we cannot take any chances they have to be protected.
