"Annan to name mediator for release talks

JIDDAH, Saudi Arabia - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Monday that Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to indirect talks for the release of two abducted Israeli soldiers and that he will appoint a mediator."
Seems this could have been done before and without that war that ensued; in YOUR opinion, what (if anything) was accomplished by the war then?

So,in the end Hezbollah is getting what they wanted...'Cos I'm sure that they will release the 2 soldiers ,if Israel releases Lebanese prisoners...Of course this could have been done in first place and a lot of lives would have been saved...But Israel had to show its strength...They didn't expected Hezbollah to be that strong...
Nothing was accomplished by the war...Now there are even more people who hate Israel and that would be willing to attack it...Hezbollah is still there and the two soldiers are still captive...

You are looking at an impossible situation over there. No offense intended but, it is a really ignorant question to ask, "well what did the war accomplish?" What it accomplished is getting the world that much closer to Armageddon. People think that because the rockets aren't falling that the conflict is over now, and everyone can draw a big sigh of relief and get back to whatever they were doing before like normal. The Bible says, "...when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them..." This conflict is far from over. It is just starting to get cranked up good. Don't forget about Iran and it's non-stop pursuit for nuclear armament. Hizballah essentially belongs to Iran, anyway. And, with the rise of fundamentalist Islam the world-over, the world is spiralling toward world war. Now these would sound like alarmist statements, but you need to be able read the writing on the wall. The terrorists haven't gotten discouraged. They haven't given up, nor will they. You would have to destroy every last one of them to change their mindset. Here is another thing to think about. Pakistan is an Islamic state, and they already have nuclear weapons of mass destruction. The trend in that country is the same as the rest of the world, to lean more and more to the fundamentalist side (the Islamic extremists, if you will). All they need is a change of leadership over there and it is on. What was feared most during the cold war has suddenly become a very dangerous reality, that Washington, D.C. doesn't have any quick answers for. And forget about the enemy without for just a second, and consider the enemy within our own borders. We have "American Citizens" living on our soil right now that have allegiances to terrorist elements located outside our borders - that is a certified fact.
We as Americans want to live our lives and ignore the threat and play our games while the storm clouds are gathering. It's time for the American public to get wise. From where I am sitting, Jesus Christ is the only answer, because George W. and Condi & Kofi can't really protect you.

contained in the final conflict between Israel and Hezbollah,Israel lost 127 infantrymen and 650 injured because of the fact of the two Israeli infantrymen captured.that's mean Israel do no longer supply a S.H.I.T approximately those infantrymen,so why you do?

i think that israel should release all the wrongfully imprisoned lebanese and palestinians, they should also apologize for the torture they inflict in them. hezbollah just wanted to release them, but israel doesn't want to, so hezbollah really has no choice.

power struggle between to hard nose and in the end after the death's of innocent people especially children was did they accomplish NOTHING not to mention the destruction of their homes
