Sounds crazy, but it works: Rub mayonaise onto the water stain, let it sit for an hour or so, wipe it off, then buff with a soft cloth.

if it is a solid hardwood table..the best way to remove a waterstain or light scratch is to ( believe it or not) break a walnut in half and rub the walnut along the grain of the wood...it's an old french polishers trick and it really works
