I just planted two trees this spring and they have something white and moldy looking on the branches and leaves. I don't know if it's normal or a disease/bug infestation.

sounds maybe like Mealy Bugs or powdery mildew. But the best answer is to take a fresh sample - in a zip lock bag - to your local garden centre.

Did you check with the nursery where you bought the trees? They should be able to help you and also replace the trees if necessary...most places do.

Also you can go to the Internet
I looked up info on my River Birch trees. Just type into your search bar the names of your trees and you will probable get loads of info and other places to look. Also you might be able to email some of these business for info from them...but I would go to your nursery first.
