I was a sign language teacher and an interpreter for the Deaf.
Learning sign language all by yourself just by looking at a book is extremely difficult. It would be good to take a sign language class at your local community college, library, or park district.
You also have to socialize with the Deaf and the Deaf community.
A major part of sign language is the use of facial expressions.
