Try this Camilla1. If the government dosen't own the ground for the development, then they will probably get it by compulsary purchase. They are then the landlord; and any casino owner/builder will have to pay ground rent, business rates, VAT, income tax taken from employees, capital gains tax ,Employers National Insurance contributions etc,etc... It may be, "Just another form of gambling". It is; Just another form of "Stealth Tax".
Iv'e seen friends lose their health, sanity, and property to the bookies. You don't have to go to a casino, you can lose your house bettin the horses at the end of your road.
The winners are the government and the bookies, the losers; the poor punters that spunk their hard earned wages up the wall of these places. Do you get my drift???

If this question is in relation to the ongoing debate on here with regards to the dome then:
mainly as the casino is being placed in a place from lottery money - which was build for the people.. not for private business where little money will come back to the community and for a very elitist customer base.
But in general casinos are bad news, will attract crime, there are more inclusive forms of entertainment as well..

Las Vegas and Atlantic City have very dark sides that we do not see...homeless people who went there and lost everything, cannot escape, and become felons to get by. They prey on visitors daily. Gambling has brought nothing but sorrow to so many...complete pay checks spent the day they are cashed, children going without food because the parent(s) could not control their addictions...same as drugs. The only people who make money on casinos are the Mafia and American Indians. I have no problems with the American Indians, but I do with the Mafia.

I suppose the good part is that they keep the wishful thinkers and magical thinkers and other such mental midgets off of the streets.
