High school is great if you let it be. You are there to learn, of course, but it is also a great time to make life-long friends and maybe even meet the person you'll marry one day. It is also the last time in your life where your responsibility factor will be almost nil, compared to college, marriage, children, etc. Enjoy high school and the freedom of your youth and you'll never have any regrets.

Straight up...
High school was the worst time of my life.
I was constantly worried about whether or not i'd be able to get into any good universities.
I had to work my butt off in all my classes just to make sure i could maintain a certain average.
There were so many expectations that people set on me.
Teachers and parents.
The gifted programs made me feel like i wasn't good enough.
The essays for English were on completely bogus topics. Bogus = boring. The books pretty much sucked. Nothing made the adrenaline race through my veins. Of course you can argue that high school isn't supposed to get you excited. But to tell you the truth, it should. Learning should be an exciting thing. You should feel excited that you're actually going to get somewhere in life after three or four grueling years.
But the only excitement i got was knowing i'd be done soon.
In university, you're on your own. You either show up or you don't.
And that's wicked.
No expectations.
Except the ones you put on yourself.

I didnt think so then but i do now. I realize now that i didnt have a care in the world except grades and if a certain girl liked me or not. I had the time of my life and didnt realize it at the time. I freely had sex with girls without the fear of aids. Some of the best music ever was made while i was in highschool. little crime compared to now. I could stay out late and walk home without fear of being killed. And of course, people talked to each other instead of ims and emails im talking about the 70's

Yes, I do think they should be the happiest years of your life. When I was in high school, I didn't realize how great those years were. Now, looking back they were some of my best years. No bills to pay, no real responsibility, a roof over my Head that was paid for. Movies, friends, school trips, it was all just great!

Actually, my high school years were some of the saddest of my life. Every year that goes by now I think is the best - I make it a point to MAKE each year the best. Living in the past is silly and unconstructive.

Yes I do believe the high school years were the best for me. I was old enough to drive yet didn't have to pay any bills. I also managed to do well in school without too much hard work.

Anyone who can say that their high school years were the best of their lives have not done anything with their lives since then. I personally have enjoyed the aging and maturing process, and every year I look forward to what the next year will bring. It would be sad if I had nothing to look forward to, because my best years were already behind me.
