The vast majority of questions posted on the special education section of Yahoo! Answers are not related to special education. Special Education is a type of education for students who need additional help, above and beyond what general education can offer. Special education is offered through grade 12. Does anyone think about where they are posting their questions? If you want a serious response, you need to post it under the correct category. Thanks.

I'm glad to see that so many people agree with me. As for the comment that special ed kids are mentally challenged, that is not always the case. The majority are not mentally challenged but rather learning disabled. Also, there is a Federal Special Education Law: The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004. I'm a school psychologist and love to work with all children.

You're right. Although there are off-topic posts in all categories, Special Education seems to have more than any other. I think that in many cases, people from other countries don't understand what our American definition of Special Education. I often see questions that refer to scientific, computer & technical, or foreign language rather than Special Education as we know it here. It might be worthy for Yahoo to break out a new category or 2 under Education for those topics. If they did so, some of us who really want to preserve this section for Special Ed might have to answer their questions by directing the questioner to more appropriate sites. Even so, I think there will continue to be widespread misinterpretation. As annoying and disappointing as it is, I have just taken to passing up all the irrelevant questions and looking for the ones that are really about Special Education.

Special Education. are the mentally challenged. Learning Disabled. or any extra help and time for kids and adults to learn with disabilities. it carries on in Adulthood. / Speech therapy . transition inclusion. A unique non graded program where someone who cannot understand math.or money. how do they adapt. People should read up on this topic and subject. Their is an abundance of Information. It is good for people to research it . so they can learn and feel how to treat these special. children who grow up to become adults. and that is where I am now. One thing i have to say. I fought for my daughters education tooth and nail. Writing letters. making calls. I ate. slept and thought of Special Ed. since my daughter was 3. Also their is a law in Md. that they have up to 21 to finish their certificate of completion. not a High school diploma. Dancing in Red Rosey Ribbon ,A poem I wrote. about getting strangled amongst all the red tape. that went on forever. Mainstreaming is when they take a mixture of special ed kids. .where their strengths or interest are high.and put them, in a classroom with a regular curriculum in that area. I have very mixed feelings on this method. But everyone is Special. so do not judge .

Great question (lol) was going to ask it myself. Some mislabel or if first time users don't understand how sub categories work. Also was wondering if Yahoo had programming glitch two weeks ago, because many higher education questions were getting post under special ed. Not many special ed students are interested in Einstein's Relativity Theory to creation of Black Wholes in deep space.

I agree with you. There are a lot of questions that are put on sites totally unrelated to the category.

I agree, people don't know how to categorize their questions. Like they think this is a miscellaneous section.
