There is nothing wrong with a well constructed and installed modular home. I think that the only drawback is the fact that they do not appreciate in value a quickly as most traditionally built homes. You are also going to have a harder time selling it some day because many people will not consider a modular. You will also probably pay a higher mortgage interest rate because the default rate is much higher on modulars.
Good luck with your decision.

I built modular homes for a couple years, all I can say is...you get what you pay for.Modular homes are mass produced on an assembly line, just like cars,we built an average of three homes a week.I personally take pride in my work,my section of the line put on the trusses, plywood(roof),and strapping,as well as hangers and headers whenever needed.I'd say your best bet would be...not to buy one, there are many alternatives.

If you like living in a cracker box that will disintegrate in bad storm, then you need to buy a modular home. No matter how good they are built, they do not stand up to winds over 50 MPH. I live in Texas and every time we get a good thunder storm, you hear of a mobile home being destroyed. Save your money and buy a 'Real" house with a foundation and anchored to the ground!!!

Modular homes are very popular now and have been for quite a while> They are built very well and are constructed for bad storms . They can be as nice as a regular home. Look for a well established dependent company..

Modular homes are good if you buy a quality home that is well insulated and had the proper roof for your local weather. You will need to have a foundation installed to accept it and you will need to research the various building codes to assure you will get the installation approved by your local code enforcement agencies. Check the better business bureau to better know your supplier and contractor used for the foundation etc.
