Of course. The British lost the war largely because they chose to (by which I mean they didn't prioritize a win). They probably underestimated the American fighting spirit and misallocated / underallocated forces. They had bigger and (at the time) more lucrative colonies to worry about.

In all military conflicts when one side uses tactics that the other is not prepared for, the tactics that are deciding factor.

In Viet Nam, the US was prepared for and attempted to fight a conventional war. This failed.

In the US Revolutionary War, the colonists fought using the same tactics and won.

Amazingly, the US forgot it's own history and has been fighting against and loosing to gorilla tactics every time we attempt to fight a conventional war against the same tactics we used to defeat the British.

Having France as an ally helped allot, as did Washington having gotten a firm gasp on his control of the army.

They wore red uniforms, marched in formation, and were an ocean away from home.

US soldiers wore whatever they wanted and would wear clothes that would blend in with the surroundings. They would fight however they wanted to using guerrilla tactics, and were fighting for there own land. Plus they were fighting a popular battle so people who were not in the army still supported the soldiers any way they could.

Just a few things to think about.
