We have caller ID, so I always know when it will be a telemarketer. Sometimes if we've been drinking or acting crazy, I'll answer the phone. They always immediately ask for the man of the house...Anyway, the other day one called and I answered. He quickly asked for my husband...I started screaming..."I'm looking for that bastard too, he left me for another woman, took all the money and left me with 5 hungry chidren to feed...etc" LOL The guy on the line started studdering and had a little freak out & apologised for bothering me & hung up. My husband & the kids laughed histerically...LOL What are some other fun things to say?

One time my husband answered the phone when a telemarketer called asking for his mother. He told them that he did not know who she was he was just there to steal the television and DVD player so he could buy some crack.

This is easy - I don't get telemarketer calls. I signed up for the Do Not Call registry: http://www.ftc.gov/donotcall/ or https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx
and more info at: http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/
Some states have do not call registries as well. You can sign up both your land line and your cell line.
On occasion I'll get a call from a charity/non-profit that I have donated to in the past. Easiest way to put off the donation call is to say that you are temporarily unemployed, but that you have them scheduled to get a donation as soon as you are employed again.
Funniest call I've ever received was an US Army recruiter asking to speak to Ginger, who was my dog. They just couldn't/wouldn't believe me that the "person" that they wanted to talk to/recruit was my shepherd/lab mix. They called her two summers in a row. I never did manage to teach her to "speak" or bark at the phone, that would've been very helpful... (Fill out one product survey, and suddenly you're on a junk mail list and the army is calling for your dog...)
And hey, telemarketers are people too, and have to make a living somehow. best thing is to be polite, and as soon as you pick up tell them "no thanks. please put me on your do not call list, and do not sell or rent out my name to others. thank you." and hang up.

Haha! Good one! I've heard of people who list their home phone number under a pet's name. Anyone who knows them will know who to ask for. Anyone who asks for the pet by name is a telemarketer by default. Don't know if they hand the phone to their cat or dog though.....

I think it's mean to harass a telemarketer. A call center is a difficult and frustrating place to work. The caller is just an ordinary worker, trying to earn a living. Why do you want to be rude to him/her? Can't you just say "No, thanks" and hang up?
I NEVER buy anything over the phone. I just tell them, "I can't afford what you are selling, but I hope you have a really nice day. Goodbye." I wouldn't feel good about myself if I was mean to someone else.

I usually say, in French, that I don't speak English. Sometimes they hang up, sometimes they yell at me to hang on (they assume that if I'm French I must also be deaf...very odd). Anyway I'll wait for the French dude and when s/he comes on I say, in English, I don't speak any French. It's really quite amusing. If they put me back to the English dept then I start in on the Russian. Never had to throw German at them yet.
