I usually rip my cd's using Windows media player and then I transfer them to iTunes where they are converted to MP3. What is the best way to protect against losing all that music in case my computer was to crash or something like that?

I have been thinking about getting rid of all my CD's but then what if something happened to my computer. Is there a storage device that would be a good place to keep the files? Thanks for any info!!

I would probably invest in two things. Firstly, I would buy a large USB drive (the bigger, the better) to hold the music on. I would then buy some backup software like StompSoft's Recover Lost Data or comparable product. Then I would configure the backup software to automatically backup this specific data, say once a week, to the USB drive and maybe to the PC as well. And if I really was concerned about keeping these music files until I died I would also be burning them onto DVD/RWs and storing them somewhere else. (parents/friends house, safety deposit box, etc...)

Get a portable drive and copy your MP3's to that. You can get an 80Gb device for about $90.
