I think that as the mother, it is your choice to decide on what to name your child. It is a big decision to make and one that will effect another person and last for the rest of your life and the rest of the child's life as well. Don't rely on other people's opinions on names for your baby, because they don't matter. The only two people involved in this choice if yours and the father of the baby.
Remember when your choosing a unique name, don't go off the wall. Always think of the possible reactions of other people towards the name. Certainly, you don't want a name that others can't pronounce because it will effect your child in life like school, work, and so on. You also don't want to choose a name that is so far out that your child will be make fun of or choose a name that could easily be made fun of.
I have a very common name, and I hate it. My name is Amanda and growing up there was at least one other Amanda in my class. High school I even had a class where there was 6 Amanda's within it. Yes, it absolutely drove the teacher and us crazy. Two of my best friends are named Amanda. So I understand totally why you want a unique name.
Personally, I like Houston but I'm not all fond of Macon. It just doesn't seem right. I do like Mason however, but it can be easily made fun of like Mason jar. Good luck in whatever you deside on and congrats on your pregnancy. I wish you all the best luck in the world. I hope that you deside on a unique name that you and your child will grow to love.

I'd stay away from anything too trendy or off the wall like the ones you suggested. Don't embarrass the kid. A good solid name like Steven, Jacob, Christopher works well and doesn't go out of style. And it depends on your last name too.
I think you and the baby's father should decide - not strangers. Get a book of baby names.
P.S. Martin Short's character Jiminy Glick named his 3 sons, Mason, Matthew and Modine. lol lol

I like those I have always liked Destiny Marie for a girl, but I have always felt the really unique name is to try and take parts of your name and your partner and come up with a name.

names are hard....i took ages deciding search the internet some good sites giving names - most of all the meanings. bear in mind it may be cute when they little but how does it work as an adult. im from uk and have mixed children white / black. i chose malik for the boy and mianda for girl because of the meanings. look at your life, are you religious, look at bible names, do you like languages, does it go with your surname, what influences your family, ask the dad what does he think. sometimes family names are passed on too. you can always be adventerous with the middle "second name" i have many friends who use that instead of their primary name as an adult. best advice is to look at some sites get an idea of names and meanings. good luck......

No matter what you name them, they're probably still be teased. My name is Abel, and I used to be teased by English as well as Spanish speakers. But now I can have fun with it, like saying that I met a guy named Cain once. True story. I also worked at a cable factory, so I had fun rhyming my name with cable, label, and table there.

Why are you thinking of naming your baby after the names of cities? I don't care for either name. Get a book of baby names and don't label the kid with something stupid just to be unique. It's immature.

my sons name is dylan and i liked it as i felt as if names like john and steven were to traditional, dylan is more mordern, and i happen to like the singer bob dylan. i think houston is fine but macon might be a bit full on as you may not want him to be laughed at when he goes to school

Macon sounds like bacon. Sorry, but I just don't like it. How about Mason instead? Although if you name him Mason, please don't name his middle name Dixon, he'll be ridiculed for life. Houston is okay, makes me think of cowboys. =)
