It sounds like it's going to start, and sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't, I wonder if it's something to do with the toad alarm that's fitted. The problem has got worse over the last couple of weeks. It never did this going back six months. It's just passed it's MOT and the garage and AA (called out 5 times) say there is nothing wrong with it. What can I do, anybody got any ideas.

Put some oil in there or you will wreck the engine - having to install new engine will really waste your money, in fact more than car is worth so it will be scrap. You need to get it into a garage for an opinion - for a starter these cars suffered with rusty sumps (oil pans) and so the oil maybe coming out through a rust hole. But it could be almost anything and we cant diagnose wothout seeing the thing

i had one with same problem it has an electronic ignition and there is a little box that is at the back of the ignition you may call it the ignition cap but it is a little more better than the normal one's every time you turn your key the cap turns over a metal plate inside the box and it can get dirty or coroded try cleaning it otherwise if it dont work the box is dead and will need replacing but it would be cheaper from a scrap yard rather than a dealer.

this car does not have a distributor so no point going looking for that.it sounds very like i crank sensor. open the bonnet. look at the engine. on the left hand side you will see a black plastic cover. on top of this you will see two connections. try disconnecting and reconnecting both of them. this may get rid of static build up in the wiring. it worked for me once or twice!

try wiggling all the wires and checking the connections from the main harness pull it apart and look into the connection it maybe corroded in there...????you may have to take the female part of the connection apart using a very small screwdriver pry off the little plastic cover there are micro connections in there very cheap to replace...good luck

may be immobiliser as this cut off the fuel .
but sounds like something with your fuel pump or fuel filter , if its firing lack of fuel at that time would be the only thing .

could be a crank position sensor and they are also prone to the cambelt breaking but usually dont do any damage.
