You are 100% right. It's not that hard to dunk when you're 6'10", so what's the big deal.
Players dunk to get a reaction from the crowd, which nowadays is made up of "amateur fans" who don't really know much about how b-ball is supposed to be played. They just want to be entertained. As far as slamming it "in your face", I'd love to see the defensive player put the dunker on his a*s. I bet he'd think twice about dunking next time.
I get more enjoyment from great ball movement, a defensive stop, or a perfectly executed fast break. Now thats basketball!!

That's like saying hitting a home run is selfish and takes away from the team concept of baseball. I really can't see how a dunk is viewed as arrogant. I don't think that's fair what you are saying. That's like saying if you do something better than someone you should keep it boxed in so no one else gets offended. If that's the case than a nice shot instigates arrogance as well. Or a hole in one, dancing well, lifting weights, getting a ko, grand slam, strike out. You can say that about almost anything.

Well i can see your side. they may be flashy, but they're only two pts. anything extra is just added bonus.
however, i think more. if a team if down six and just drained a 3 at one end of the floor and the say team gets a steal on defense, a dunk on a fastbreak gets the crowd back in the game and gets the team pumped up. so really, the dunk is two pts, but the effects are much more.

Who doesn't like to see someone dunk over a 7 footer? Shut ur mouth, dunking is a part of the game.. I can dunk a 9 and a half but not a 10, im only 5'9 tho.. Nate Robinson is the man, he won the slam dunk contest at 5'10, he has some hops.
If you dont like dunks, watch the WNBA fool.

I don't think it's overrated. Sports entertainment is exactly that, ENTERTAINMENT. If you ever dunked on someone you would understand. Yes I am a female and I know the feeling of the dunk. Some of us CAN DO IT. It's not just scoring on ya, it's scoring in your face baby!!!! If you have a problem with that, you ain't man enough to play the game.

Let me explain something, a shot can be blocked, a layup can miss, a dunk will not miss, it's a safe way of getting points, and often enough, a foul aswell.
It is no more skillful to hit a 3pointer than to be able to make your way to the rim amidst traffic, hit the dunk, and draw a foul.

I've always been more impressed when someone can sink a long distance shot, on a consistent basis.
In football, no one is entertained by a half yard touchdown run, but in basketball, slamming the ball in is the big plus.
