I am an author of novels and will be doing research for a future project. The book will be a horror about a girl locked in a basement with a strobe light running constantly. As part of my research I will personally subject myself to similar conditions.

I'm just wondering if there's any concerns I should be aware of. No, I'm not epileptic. The experiment will be controlled and will last for several hours at least. But to create a situation similar to the story, I will not determine the actual duration.

I would prefer answers from those with medical or science background but anyone who's experienced side effects from a strobe light are also welcomed. Thanks!

A strobe light emits light for extremely short durations thus moving objects captured on film appear in a blur or as a continuous time lapse.

Continued exposure will be tiring for the eyes and may cause permanent damage. Although first hand experience will teach you its ins and outs you will only end up hurting yourself. Its better if you read detailed medical reports and talked with othalmologists (Eye doctors) for facts.

Hi. Fluorescent lights turn on and off rapidly but too fast for a normal person tho perceive. There must be a particular strobe frequency that is more annoying/visible. Timed to alpha waves maybe?
