Nas Common Mos Def Talib Kweli Outkast The Roots A Tribe Called Quest De La Soul Pete Rock and CL Smooth Digable Planets Arrested Development The Fugees The Pharcyde Organized Konfusion Justice System That's just a handful from the 90s. If I went into the 2000s the list could go on for days.

it should be as it was in the early 90s talking about real life stuff rather than bling bling/ in the club, cos anybody can do that rubbish. Also it should be about style like twista and lyrics, hearing lyrics like "girl just a little bit" and "candy shop" makes my cringe (what the youth listen today!!!) . That is why 2pac is better than that idiot curtis as at least he had a message to send out. The final thing is a beat cos as Quik says the lyrics aint nothing if the beat aint crackin. So 1. Real life/Voice of people, 2. lyricism 3. The beat

The best rap should have a point, have something worthwhile to say. When done properly it can be one of the most powerful mediums around (Like when Public Enemy were around). It's such a great way to show you're anger. Unfortunately these days 50 cent and such like put all their anger at women, people in other gangs. Mainstream rap is all a pile of crap these days. UK underground like you said is the way forward.

That's gotta be THE stupidest guestion I've seen, well, at least in a couple minutes. It's ALL comercial crap. Rap portrays itself as the music of the inner-city gangster, but the kids all shellin out the cash are middle class white boys such as yourslf. You like the Tupac stuff...cool...go wax a cop today, hit up a liquor store, pimp out your mom, and beat the s^&* out of your little sister. You know you don't have the balls!!!! See,it's ALL comercial crap to make you feel good about your "bad" self while you drive mommas caddy to Hastings to pick up a couple DVDs. You're as commrcial as 50, but at least he sells himself....with a tad bit of cred...

"Isn't rap supposed to be an out of tune song" - nope......there's rhythm, a melody.....pretty much the same things all kinds of music have
"sung by a homophobic singer" - nope, homphobia has nothing to do with it, and they're rapping, not singing, you mongoloid
"who tries to make out he's black when he's patently not" - most rap artists are black (usually of african descent) but of all the white rappers i've listened to (many) the only one i've ever heard trying to sound black or from the "hood" is vanilla ice and you can ridicule him all you like
"and who couldn't sing in tune even if his life depended on it?" - maybe he could, maybe he couldn't. of course, he's not singing. the rap's all nice and in tune though
"Oh yes - and the words are meaningless too. I think that just about sums it up, don't you all?" - you're words are meaningless when all you've probably ever heard is contemporary rap and hip hop on the radio or mtv

rap should be about experiences,
contrary to what the MTV crowd know rap to be.
I miss when it was about what happened in a rapper life instead of what it is now. They also need to bring the music back, instead of all these electronic sounds. What ever happened to words.
