There is so much spam and disingenuious people offering ways to boost your sites 'Page Rank' and other such oddities, but what is the best way to gain respect from search engines and to get your site noticed in general - for FREE?

There are lots of methods (in fact there are lots of books about the methods!) but the general rules are:

1. Keep it clean - don't fill your page code with anything that will slow users down and use CSS wherever possible
2. Include lots of key words in your page text, but try not to over-repeat yourself - most search engines frown on people who repeat the same word over and over just to increase their ranking.
3. Get lots of links from other websites - the higher the reputation of the sites that link to you, the better your page ranking will become....but also it is rumoured that some engines frown upon "directory" sites that just have listings in an attempt to get you to the top of the ranking pile, so be careful who you get to link to you
4. Make sure your page headers have relevant titles - and use CSS/HTML header tags (H1, H2 etc)
5. Make sure that your Meta Tags are all compliant and accurate

If in doubt simply google "search ranking optimisation". Or if you have shed loads of money employ a specialist web designer to make the optimisation changes for you. Beware of companies that offer top rankings - its rare that they can do it, and it often short lived. They are simply out for your money.

Unfortunately there are no guarantees when it comes to rankings, you just have to promote yourself silly (offline as well) and hope that you get lots of clicks and people linking to you.

Good luck!

Get a better chance of being seen by the search engines by putting your web page up on a domain you own and not some free site. Also add key words to your site describing its content to get higher rank in the web pages. The word "tacos" over and over in the html code will help people googling tacos to find your site. Helpful if you're selling tacos.

Good question,
It's a good idea to submit your site to search engines. You can do this online for free to a few search engines. Just search "free website submission" on google. Another way to submit your site to search engines is by downloading "Web CEO" a great way to make your site search engine friendly, and then submit your site to thousands of search engines. You can get it at http://www.webceo.com absolutely free! Another way to promote your website is by exchanging links with other websites. I'd recommend you use linkmarket.com another free service.
Hope this helps,
Hafiz

Oh, and by the way if you want some hits for your website use
http://autohits.dk/?ref=1099508677 it's great for hits!

The best way is simply to have decent content on your site and get other sites to link to your site. The way Page Rank works is very complicated, but one of the larger factors is how many pages link to your page (and the Page Rank of those pages). So get some decent content that people will link to, make sure your site is search engine friendly and just wait.

i advertised on any and all free advertising sites i could find plus submited it to all the search engines i could find. advertising forums are a good way to advertise too. ffa sites are a waste of time though. i got number 1 in a few search engines but it takes time and is a very tedious and lenghty job doing it
