I know this won't be a popular answer, but I feel someone should say it:
He abused one too many wild animal and it cost him his life!
I personally refused to watch his shows after the first couple. If anyone else had treated (tormented) animals the way he did, they would be brought to justice by the RSPCA or Ausie equivalent. Grabbing hold of a snake as an example, by the tail, and then playing with it for five minutes whilst talking about it for the camera, just isn't necessary. The same snake could be filmed without touching it at all and the same information imparted to exactly the same audience. The difference being, the second approach isn't cruel to the frightened animal.
I affraid, that whilst my feelings go out to his family (and I mean that sincerely), I have no sympathy for him at all. Play with fire for long enough, you're gonna get burnt in the end.

Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44.
Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.
"He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time.
Crew members aboard the boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and administered CPR as they rushed the boat to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter. Medical staff pronounced Irwin dead when they arrived a short time later, Stainton said.

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

Sorry, but although it's sad, any death is sad. Why all the fuss about this one? I'm sure there have lots of other deaths over the weekend, but because they haven't been reported, nobody's concerned. And no, I'm not callous or anything. Just trying to come to terms with the death of my husband last year and wondering how much longer the pain will go on for.

Ya it was so shocking. He died because he was filming a stingray for a kids show. There were to many people around it and got boxed in so it felt threatened, so It pierced Steve's chest with it's poisonous barb.

Your kidding! Every man, woman and their dogs on the planet must know that by now. Even I have known it for many hours and I'd never heard of the man before he died. There are faster ways of getting news nowadays than your use of Pony Express!!
