Well, being stuck in a cupboard for atleast ten years won't make your eyes any better. Also, magic is more difficult than that. You can't just heal your eyes, unless they're severely damamged, and then you would have to go to the hospital or Madam Pomfrey.

I don't think that it is possible to correct vision flaws by magic. Dumbledore was never without his half-moon spectacles, James Potter wore them, and Harry does too. Those three have impressive magical talent, yet they wear glasses, I imagine they'd fix their vision if they could. It would be a huge problem if their glasses were knocked off during a duel or a quidditch game (or as in Harry's case dealing with the Whomping Willow) yet they wear them. Dumbledore is arguably the greatest wizard that ever lived, James was clever enough to find a way to make himself an Animagus, but they are forced to wear glasses.

I have a Harry Potter scar and wear Harry Potter glasses because I'm nearsighted and bump into things. Actually, the scar is from an auto accident and the glasses just look better than the old worn-out pair.
It's a character detail, he is more real to our imaginations because of this one additional and easily visualized fact we know about him. It allows Hermione to fix them and show off her ability and so establish her character. The fact they needed fixing shows the neglect he has been living under. Imperfections show the humanness of literary heroes. Look at Little Orphan Annie! (An un-magical, female Harry Potter who stood as a metaphor for her 1930's generation)

Harry Potter wear glasses because he's short-sighted and
can't see far clearly, even when he's flying and defeating
fierce monsters. It's simple as that.

He wears glasses because it's part of the story line... so, go with it and enjoy it.
Obviously, it doesn't bother him to wear glasses, so why should it bother you? Harry Potter is bright enough to know that when you cure yourself, your patient is a fool!

I think a running theme through the books is how Harry has his mothers eyes. Book 7 is supposed to have more about that. Maybe when he goes to Godric's Hollow, he'll realize something and be healed, or maybe his mom was near sighted also.

Yeah, well Superman couldn't pick up a chunk of kryptonite either.
Full marks to J.K. Rowling for giving her hero glasses. There are thousands of little boys out there who wear glasses and have been made to feel like nerds because of it. Now we have a hero they can identify with! Hurrah!!!

All of J.K.'s heroes have weaknesses. I mean if Harry were drop dead gorgeous no one would be able to relate. And Dumbledore wears glasses too, after all.

Harry doesn't really need the glasses. He only continues wearing them after he arrives at hogwarts because he believe they make him look more intelligent. He could get madam pomfrey to fix them, but he chooses not to
