Serious question: Why is it that just about every pickup truck is parked backward?

simple. pickups have[for some reason]have a smaller turning radius there for parking backwards makes it easier to get out.

1) If it is near a work site, there is less distance to walk to the end where you carry stuff.
2) For many, it is difficult to see to the side in a pick-up because of the huge blind spot of the rear of the cab. Difficult to see traffic coming from either direction. However, if backed in, exiting a space isn't much different than crossing an intersection. As for parking backwards, if you are already in the traffic zone and stop to back in, everyone else must wait for you because you are already there. If you try to back out of the space, you have other cars and the back of the cab blocking your view, and someone trying to bully his way past you may very well be hit, because he "wasn't there a minute ago". Safety.
As for the turning radius, it is the same going forward as backward. Nothing in the pick-up's geometry or suspension changes merely because it is going fore ward or backward. It is the same both ways.

Two reasons I can think of:
1. To allow you to load stuff into the loadbox without having to stand in the traffic.
2. Due to the length of the loadbox, if you reverse out of a parking space, you have to cross quite far into the road, before you can see if there is any oncoming traffic, while if you are facing the road, you don't have that problem
