I was speaking with someone yesterday who has it and while he was telling a story, accidentally spit a lil bit directly in my eye (pretty gross anyways right). What are my chances?

The virus is found in ALL body fluids to include saliva. Blood, urine and feces is the most common way to spread it but, if the virus is in body fluids, the answer is yes.

flush the eye out with lots of water and on your next visit, have your doctor draw labs. You will have to go back in 6 months for repeat labs.

The chance of getting it is rare, but, why take a chance with the virus in the saliva.

Generally, HIV is transferred via blood stream, semen, vaginal fluid, or breast milk. Spit does not carry the HIV virus and it is extremely unlikely you will be infected. HIV has been found at low concentrations in the saliva, tears and urine of infected individuals, but the risk of transmission by these secretions is negligible

It's possible, but very unlikely. The only way you are going to be sure is to be tested now and six months later. Because it might not show up now, but in six months it could. But see your doctor and he would be the best one to advise you. But chances are VERY SLIM. I don't believe there have been any reported cases.

I am changing my answer.

It is a "myth".

Human saliva can contain HIV, but there are virtually no documented cases of HIV transmission in this manner.

Don't worry about it. You could kiss him and not get it. Saliva doesn't contain a high enough concentration of HIV to transmitt it.

Dont worry honey. You would need to drink like 7 gallons of their spit in order to get it. And i highly doubt you will do that. You are safe dont worry.
