I love everything German, and I was seriously thinking about settling there in a few years. But a friend told me that maybe I shouldnt because they were very racist.. Is this true?! So I would receive threats for being East Indian?

There are neonazi there...like anywhere else, including here I never heard anythng about them being racist.

Here is the problem. When the general public and especially the younger generations are not necessarily more racist than other peoples, the business world still is very discriminating. Discriminating not only to race and color, but to females in birth giving age, foreigners who may not be fluent in German and other things that could be a potential problem to employment. It is still very common that if you apply for a job and send in your resume that you have to supply a picture, birth date, sex and race. Bottom line, if you just want to live in Germany and don't need a job, go ahead, I would not worry about racism. Although if you want to start a career in Germany and you are one of the above listed, don't bother, you will be disappointed.

A racist isn't certain by technique of their race. all and sundry will be a racist, no count number the position they arrive from. I fairly have pals from international huge collectively with Germans and racism makes them ill. flow there, stay nicely and prosper.

not all are racist anymore than Americans are.
But I have noticed for the YEARS working in service that Germans are CHEAP. They don't know what tipping is and seem to play naive. Their best "excuse" is that in Germany tip is included.
Well, here it isn't and you aren't in Germany anymore. Learn the custom of the country you visit -- or for those of you that moved here YEARS ago and still haven't caught on -- cough it up!.

There are a lot of foreigners in Germany, and Germans are not ALL racist! I know many of them and they are very good people.

I don't think they are more racist than anyone else and I would imagine that that would also depend on what part of Germany.
Look at the U.S.! There are racists of all colors and they do seem to have "pockets" of hatred in certain areas.

95% are not racist...but there are allways stupid people who are racist. But thats everywhere like that. Show me one country without any racists.

anyone can be racist. don't generalize. i don't say all east Indians smell like curry. you would like it if i did. so don't say that. obviously your friend is letting on bad experience get to her. don't let it hamper you!

idk...but i have to take german this year and all i can think about is the humiliation!! i really need to go to my counselor to switch me from german to spanish!!
