Use a topical acne cleanser designed for people with your specific skin type (ie. dry, oily, combination). Also, use toners (astrigents) to deep clean and reduce the size of your pores for awhile. Also, make sure to moisturize, because dry/dead skin cells clog up your pores.
I like Biore Pore Perfect strips, they help get rid of blackheads on your nose.
Also, try not to wear too much heavy makeup, as it clogs your pores more than dead skin.
To be completely straight with you, there IS no perfect solution for getting rid of bad acne. You just have to experiment a bit and find what works for you.
Good luck, and have fun at the dance =)

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.
In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.
Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.
In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.
If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

Heyy, well, it depends on your situation. You said that you have a bad case, so here are my suggestions ... Visit a dermatologist ASAP; you're more likely to see results from them than from any over-the-counter product. Also, do you notice a pattern in your breakouts? (i.e. let's say ... you break out more every 3rd week of the month), because if you do, your skin problems could be correlated with your menstruation cycle, in which case you'll need to drink more water during those times of the month. Thirdly, don't touch your face/pick at your face that much, as your fingers spread bacteria. Don't overuse too many different kinds of products, and stay out of the sun, because this could irritate and dry out your skin, causing more breakouts. And make sure all the facial products you use are non-comedogenic, which means that they are oil-free and don't clog your pores. Lastly, if you are very desperate, and let's say, it's a few hours before homecoming and your skin still hasn't cleared up. I'd say in this case, it's best to turn to some makeup. Maybelline and Chanel make some pretty good concealers, or you could even consider using theatrical makeup to cover up blemishes. Also, some other options include ... applying toothpaste or preparation-h to your acne.

One thing that helps me (among all of the other great suggestions made in this thread) is when washing my face, soap up the washcloth, and when scrubbing the face, do it in a circular motion, going in small circles around the face.
This not only gets rid of dead skin cells, but it also opens the pores to allow the soap/cleaners to work. Even as an adult, I get acne quite often due to oily skin. So I use this method, and within a couple of days, the acne goes away.

Cetaphyl is mild, but it can dry out your skin too. Drying sounds like the right thing for acne, but as your skin tries to re-moisturize, it creates excess sebum, which in turn creates even more pimples. Bottom line--moisturizer for acne prone skin. You also want to drink a lot of water to flush toxins out of your body that can create zits. I know this sounds weird, but I saw a thing on TV about a Pepto Bismol mask for acne. I used to have huge pimples on my chin, so I dabbed on some Pepto and haven't had a big zit since. I was still breaking out with little pimples though and always had to wear makeup. I started using Mary Kay Formula 3 cleanser and their Time Wise moisturizer for normal to oily skin and within 3 days I was out in public with no makeup. You can go to the Mary Kay site to find a rep, or just go to craigslist. People are always selling MK there, usually at a discounted price.

Are you drinking the recommended amount of water every day? Try and cut down on tea and coffee and fizzy drinks that contain caffeine.
Also, diet helps ... try and eat the recommended minimum of five vegetables and fruits every day, and mix and match the colours. Cut down on sugary and salty snacks. Try not to eat fatty foods.
Also plenty of sleep, at least seven hours a night, in a dark room.
Visit your doctor and see what medical treatment he/she recommends, or if not that, then visit your pharmacist and ask the advice of the assistant for a good facial routine to help with the problem. You could also ask for tips on makeup and what products might help reduce the signs of any remaining acne, without making the problem worse.
Good luck, enjoy the night, you'll look beautiful.

Keep up a regular routine of Cleanser-Toner-Moisturizer each morning and night. Also, avoid touching your face because your hands are covered in bacteria. There's really no "quick" way to clear up acne but since you have over two weeks, just keep wash at morning and night and be careful not to was too much because you could just dry out your skin.
