First in his own mind he likes you, second in his small mind he wants to protect you and run all the other bucks away...And third...you may be to young for third!
In the mean time avoid him and his ilk till such time as you can point out that he has two such fingers and suggest an appropriate action he can preform on himself with them!

I don't think you are reading the whole story here. I think there may be another chapter in this book that you haven't read. Could it be that the guy who gave you the finger was a bit jealous, either of you because of the way you were occupying a friend of his, or even of his friend, because he secretly likes you?! Jealousy makes jerks of all of us, and not just guys.

Most guys are insecure about their manhood. They feel they have something to prove to everyone else that they're better or stronger or whatever else they want people to notice. They are so worried about what everyone else thinks that they miss out on some of the best relationships (friendship or dating). Not all guys are like that, just a lot, and a lot do grow out of it.
