There is nothing wrong with gay marriage. There is plenty wrong with attempts to legislate against it.

Maybe nature constructed it so that heterosexual sex is the best for preserving the species. But that definitely doesn't hold for our species now, since there are far too many of us in the world. What I don't like about these laws is that they attempt to deny benefits to gay couples that normally come to straight ones. These include notification in an emergency, inheritance, buying a house, checking into hotel rooms and so forth - across the entire board of human activities. To me this constitutes outright discrimination.

Not only should all anti-gay measures up for election be voted down, but all laws and amendments currently in the books should be repealed. In particular, I call for people in the state of Virginia to vote "no" on the "Definition of Marriage Act" that will be on the ballot there this November.

Haven't to date heard a really good argument against it. Am str8 myself but have gay friends so I do look out for them...

One man and one woman definition:
Who made this criterion anyway? Until the 60s, even mixed marriages were disallowed! (and that was a 'natural law' argument as well)

Gay relationships are immoral:
According to who? The Bible? The Bible has shouldn't have standing in American law after the Treaty of Tripoli (1791) and the First Ammendment

Procreation argument:
Gosh, poor heterosexual couples who don't want kids like me...
Infertile couples would have to have marriage annulled too!
Oh and while we're on this track, we shouldn't have vasectomies, wear condoms and the like, let's outlaw them all!

A threat to the institution of marriage:
Clearly, proponents of these have a big insecurity issue to deal with. How does say my gay friend Dave's relationship affect my marriage? um....you tell me...

Marriage has always been a heterosexual institution:
OMG, we're in 2006 not 1806! Even slavery was a traditional institution and it's absolutely disgusting. This is probably (in my mind at least) the weakest argument...

Gay marriage will force churches to marry them:
Dosen't have to be the case at all, check out Canada!

'Special rights' to gays if you grant them marriage arguement:
Yeah, sure, that makes Dave and Paul special if they enjoy the same basic rights I have? What the....?

And my personal favourite: Gay marriages would start us down a slippery slope towards incest, bestiality, poligamy and etc...
This is called the reducio ad absurdum lie which is, as usual, baseless and without any merit- funnily enough evidence suggests otherwise with Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Canada not quite slipping down this path...hmm....wonder why?
It's a basic scare tactic that is quite hilarious because it attempts to scare its audience so soundly that they will never dream of taking the first step not to mention its dearth of a basic logical argument form.
Ironically proponents of this one are actually displaying the fact that they are anti-gay and not pro-marriage simply for the fact that there is no hew and cry over child molesters, rapists and drug-dealers getting married which should be the case if it was so 'morally unjustifiable'

Unnatural to be gay argument (I can't believe I'm addressing this rather outdated one):
Do your reading. At least 450 species of animals have been known (and documented) to display homosexual behaviour. And that's just the basics....(oh for the love of neurophysiology!)

So yes, definately should be allowed because it's just basic injustice. Opponents of it should come up with something better than same-old conservatists/religious arguments and wake up to the 21st (and not 19th) century!

Of course gay marriage should be allowed. Anywhere where there is freedom of religion, homosexuals should be allowed to marry, because the Bible should not dictate the law, since it is not a required religion.

There's no problem with gay people wanting to make a lifetime commitment to each other. Aren't their critics always complaining that homosexuals are frivolous? They can't have it both ways. Anyway, heterosexuals haven't exactly set a great precedent either. The divorce rate is around 50-55%, and I know many homophobes in marriages either need to be divorced or are cheating on their spouses.

The genuine measure of a person isn't who they wake up with, it's how they treat others.

So you are speaking of Gay Unions, and perhaps they would get more acceptance if they would ask for that instead of asking to be wed under the bible hype.

Of couse. If marriage is about love and committment, then of what relivance is the gender of those involved? Of what benefit to society is it to make the lives of a group of people harder, to marginalise them and dissallow them the opportunity to express their love and committment to one another? The mere fact that people feel the question needs to be asked is absurd and serves as a direct reflection of the homophobia endemic in society right now.

The practice of homosexuality is destructive to the human soul and God gave His warnings about this in the Bible. Supporting gay marriage is a sin because it means to support homosexuality.

Iniquities (sinful tendencies) pass down the generation line if they are not removed by the Blood of the Lord Jesus. Homosexuality is caused by iniquity and the Blood of Jesus cleanses the iniquities of all who accept Him as their Saviour.

After a person accepts the Lord Jesus as their Saviour, they are transformed and made a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). So the gay person would be changed and so would the alcoholic, liar, drug addict, fornicator etc. It's the power of the Blood of Christ and the Holy Spirit in the believer that brings about this transformation.

REDEMPTION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Because mankind is incapable of meeting God’s standard of perfection necessary to abide in God’s presence (Romans 3:19-20,23), God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the total debt for the believer’s sins and mercifully credits to his account Christ’s righteousness (Romans 3:21-28,5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Jesus’ gracious act of atonement was complete and covers all sin (Colossians 2:13-14; 1 John 1:9). Salvation is not based on good deeds but according to the mercy of God (Titus 3:4-5). Believers are justified by faith; it is a gift by God’s grace (Romans 4:3-8; Ephesians 2:8-9). A true, living faith will result in a desire to live a holy, loving life of good works (Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:6; James 2:14-26), but failure to be absolutely successful at righteous living does not negate the believer’s justified status.

If you sincerely say this prayer, your sins will be washed away, you will be redeemed to God, be saved from eternal torment and inherit the Kingdom of God:

"Dear Jesus,

I am a sinner.
I repent of my sins.
Please forgive me and save me by your shed blood;
come into my heart.
I want to receive you as my own personal Lord and Savior.

Amen"

Who cares who is getting married?
I wouldn't want to interfere with people making a public committment to love someone for the rest of their lives...
It is already legal here, and why not? It doesn't hurt anyone.

Just a note to 'The Rock', marriage is a committment made by two consenting adults, how can you suggest that it is the same as an animal? Do you believe that your dog can talk and take a vow of love to you???

because if you believe in evolution what is wrong with a homosexual that they want to take themselves out of the gene pool. and you can set it all up so that you have the same rights as a hetero married couple. why havent you done that already. seems like laziness on the communities part and a haughty self righteousness that i deserve it no matter what. look at the civil rights movement and take a lesson a small victory leads to a greater one down the road.
