I'm neither. I don't see the reason for living in a hospital clean environment, since I have no environmental allergies. Neither do I like living in filth.
I will put things away after I use them, because I like to be able to find them again, without having to search. But I will also allow the tops of my tables to get quite cluttered before I make my kids and grandkids clean up after themselves.
I HATE to see clothes spread or dropped where they don't belong. I make everyone put their clothes and shoes in the appropriate areas for them. I walk around in the dark a lot (I used to be afraid of the dark, and just trained myself to do this to get over the phobia) and can not abide tripping over shoes that have been left where they don't belong!
The bedrooms that belong to everyone else are none of my responsibility. I keep my own room neat (that need to know where everthing is again), but don't expect it of others. I will start getting pissy, however, about garbage thrown on the floor in other people's rooms. This is my house, and I don't want to have to deal with insect infestations because of someone's lack of hygiene.
I insist that all common areas be kept clean and uncluttered as well...living and dining rooms, kitchen, baths, hallways, stairs, laundry room, work shop...because I use those areas as well, and they need to be up to my standard.
Again, I am not obsessive...I clean and wash the floors when they need it. Usually once every 7 to 10 days. Walls and windows are as they need it, maybe 2 to 3 times a year. And I do a good vacuuming through to get all visible dust about once a month.
My house is a comfortable home, not a hospital surgery, nor a pig sty.

Neither cuz I can be a neat freak about some things, like typing all of my labels & taking the utmost pride in my penmanship, but when it comes to cleanliness I'm just as bad as my boyfriend Cyrus about not changing my bed linen very often & my skid marks aren't much lighter than his. So I guess I'm a neat freak but CERTAINLY NOT A GERMOPHOBE!!! I'm still rebelling against my mother's anticeptic ways at age 23 because I feel she did me a disservice since illness strengthens the immune system, so me & Cyrus, consequently, are still getting colds every winter of our lives! Kids who attend daycare & play in filth can actually become "naturally immunized" against all sorts of viruses like colds & flu!
