There may not be a problem with the baby, some babies are just small. The doctor may be worried the placenta is not working as well as it should be and that the baby is not getting enough from mum. They will monitor your wife closely and the growth of the baby and if they are concerned they will perhaps deliver early. Good luck.

First of all,....CONGRATS!!! on expecting a new baby!!!!!! I'm sure that you are just nervous, and I can sure understand that,I have two sons, they are 15 and 10 now! But they are always babies to us! One of mine was just 6lbs7oz. But during the last few weeks of pregnancy thats when the baby gains alot of it's weight,so make sure your wife eats well, gets plenty of rest(which I know is hard at this stage of the pregnancy),help her to stay as relaxed as possible, and the Dr. should be seeing her once a week at this point, and I'm sure everything will be fine!!! If your Dr. had been really worried she would have ordered special ultra sounds, and tests, that would have told her if there was a problem, so I'm sure she just meant the baby's weight was just a little on the low side,it will gain alot the last couple of weeks!!!! Try not to worry!!!! I'm sure God's hand is on your child!!!!!!!

Not necessarily. If the baby doesn't look like he or she has grown over a certain period, then they'll be concerned, but just being a little on the small side means it's a small baby. My baby measured small during an ultrasound and he's perfectly fine and healthy.

You should have asked while you were there, or the doctor should have told you.
Next time get a different doctor. You're paying this person for his professional abilities, part of those abilities is communication. You're being ripped off.
You can actually call the OB's office at any time day or night even if its not an emergency for questions such as these. People are paid to be on call even on holidays to answer such questions.
next time pick a different doctor.

I was really small at 38 weeks, and my guy, born 6lbs, was prefectly healthy.
Just as long as the baby is healthy, you hvae nothing to worry about. Every womans body is different, some are huge pregnant, and some are tiny-especially if this is her first pregnancy-they are always the smallest.
Good luck! :)

no, the doctors told me that my kids was small. Yet one was when she was born 5# 3 oz. Yet, my little boy was 6 pounds 4 oz. and they was both VERY HEALTHY! Just because they say they are small does not mean the worst! BEST WISHES!

The doctors told me that I was going to have a huge baby, because I had the pregnancy diabetes. My baby was only 7lbs. 1ounce. That's not huge to me. I think they have no clue whats going on most of the time .

Probably not, but if there is the doctor knows more about it than people on Yahoo answers do.
