Neon is an inert gas, meaning that it react with nothing --- it has no electrons to share, and none to give up in its completed shells. Its protons are equal to its electrons, so it has no charge on the atom. Why was it found? You'll probably have to Google it to find why or how it was found. Its main use is in signs -- neon signs. The element glows when an electrical charge is run thru it. Also Google the Periodic table. All of the elements lighter than lead (pb) along the right column are inert, and are gasses. It is beneficial in this industrial age for use in signs---those signs that are made out of tubular glass, and bent into the name of the product being advertised. If this element were outlawed or non existant, we would have to use a heavier or lighter gas (helium or argon) both of which are less efficient is producing light. Neon glows red/orange. Again, google Neon. The best visual example would be an ad for something made of tubular glass, and glowing --- beer is the usual product, but your teacher probably wouldn't want you to put that on a t-shirt. The glass must be tubular to resist the fact that there is little in the way of air (nitrogen, oxygen etc in the tube, --- essentially it is a vacuum, the more neon, the brighter the glow. A piece of flat glass would implode..... hope this is helpful. Good luck. (If you have been introduced to the periodic table, the numbers will tell you its atomic mass, its atomic number, and some tables will tell you how the electrons are arranges, and its valence number (valence is the number of electrons it can recieve or give up to make the last shell stable. Neon's last shell holds all the electrons it can hold.)
