I also remember the old dolly tub and mangle. The laundry looked so spick and span hanging on the line. The hours of soaking, boiling, rinsing in dolly blue bag and then mangling at the end..it took almost all day to do. Oh and I forgot the starching..that is another story.
What women they were in those days. Not pampered moaners like we are to day.
But then everything is relative is it not.
I am not sure that there is a product to compare with dolly blue bag, though I still stick to persil in automatic but it has to non- biological.
What memories you have just pulled out of the dark recesses of my mind.

Yes I remember "Dolly Blue" bags I found some in my mums house last year when I was clearing out after her death.
My mum used them on my sister & myself when we were children to lighten our blond hair. A lot of mothers in Nottingham in the 50 & 60's did the same.
She also used them for her whites!
( You have now got me wondering what they were made of)and exactly what my mother put on to my hair, no wonder I can't do anything with it!

Yes, I remember it with its muslin bag tied around a wooden plug at the neck. I am a few years older than you. I think for the modern equivalent you want a fabric whitener, not a fabric softener.

I don't know what product is comparable with "the blue bag", as we called it. I am somewhat older than you, and remember it being good for wasp stings, Things just ain't the same, are they ?
It consisted of Ultramarine, liquid glucose and bicarbonate of soda.
