On this site, whenever someone asks about questionable passages in the old testament and/or contradictions or inconsistencies between the old and new testament(such as god being ALOT meaner in the old testament but more loving in the new testament), theres always people saying that when jesus came the laws changed, and the law now is to love each other, etc. etc.

My question is, if you went to hell for doing something that was wrong before jesus came but became okay to do later, do you stay in hell? 'cause eternity is a pretty long time to suffer for something that isn't even wrong anymore.

and also, what about the people in heaven? If they went to heaven, but did something that god allowed people to do in the old tesatment that he no longer allows people to do, are they kicked outta heaven and sent into hell?

christ, I'm not trying to "paint god into a corner" or whatever your saying. Im trying to understand god better. I dont believe in him becuase he seems unrealistic to me, if everything made sense about him then I would believe in him. So when something doesnt make sense I ask a question.

Christ reevaluates your record and observes your behavior record since you've been in hell. If you've behaved then you'll
have the option of going to heaven. If you've been naughty, hell is
where you stay.

Actually Jesus did not come to put away the law but to fulfill it. Read the new testament, the whole thing, then the old. So basically what was wrong then is still wrong now. People believe they don't have to obey the ten commandments, but the truth is they do, the love part is an addition to what we should be doing. Add all will go to heaven to start then will go before the Father to for him to place the final judgment of eternal hell or eternal life. Then if it's hell they are there for eternity and if it's life you will be judged for the things you did after accepting Jesus into your life and did not repent for. Such as, Did you obey God's word? Did you open your home to a stranger, food to the hungry, clothes to those who needed them? Where you greedy? Did you tithe? Did you obey the ten commandments?Etc.......

God never changes. When He says something it will come to pass. Jesus Himself said that not one thing has changed.

The way you can answer your question is to realize that their are no differences between the Old and New Testaments except the fulfilling of promises; and that is not a change.

Scripture is very specific on the fact that no one will reach heaven that doesn't belong there nor will any be able to bridge the gulf between heaven and hell.

When Christ was in the grave 2,000 years ago He preached the gospel to souls in prison, who were there from the time of Noah, and set free others who roamed the streets of Jerusalem.

Look. If you bought a ticket to a show for five dollars and I got one for fifty-five -- are they going to put you out because your ticket cost less than mine?

You must remember when reading answers and questions on this venue to check everything by the Word of God and remember that God is totally fair.

If somebody says the Scripture doesn't match up it means they do not or will not understand it or have been blinded to it.

The true answer to your question is that the law has never changed and never will. So you can forget about all the transfer tickets from heaven and hell.

Jesus didn't come to change the law, he came to fulfill the law. The law is eternal it doesn't change. The people of the Old Testament were just learning about God. They had been living with the Egyptians for so long they had adapted their customs and beliefs. The rules had to be ridged and plain. Like when you teach a child how to cross the street. At first you must tell the child, " don't cross the street alone; hold my hand at all times; look both ways before crossing; etc..." When Jesus came He taught that if we remembered the rules of safe crossing we could go on our own. The rules had not changed, however the ridged guidelines could be removed IF WE LISTENED TO HIS TEACHINGS AND FOLLOWED THEM. If you will reread the New Testament you will note that on many occasions Jesus expounds and explains the law. He doesn't contradict it. Also no one goes to Hell until the final judgment. All those who sinned in their lifetime are in spirit prison awaiting judgment. It's a good thing Jesus is our judge because he loves us and has a perfect knowledge of us. He judges by his standards not by our standards. That's why he said "Judge not least ye also be judged"

It sounds to me like you're trying to paint God into a corner. He does not change, nor does His laws. Right is right and Wrong is wrong. Jesus came is human form and delivered us from our inequities and infirmities that we may have everlasting life and forgiveness of our sins. Because we are sinful by nature. It is easier and funner to sin than do the right thing. Once you have a deep PERSONAL relationship with our deliverer you will understand it ALL. GOOD LUCK. Seek and you shall find. All those that do not know Christ now will be given one final chance before told, "...I do not Know you". But time grows short.

God would not ordain or plan every physique's life. Your life is as much as you, and you have loose will to do what you like. you only could desire to be prepared to place forth the attempt to alter your life. EDIT: Alice W, it is real. God is supposedly omniscient meaning he be responsive to the previous, present, and the destiny, no remember what share different paths there are, he knows all, so consequently He knows in case you will pass to hell or heaven. This of direction, screws up christianity enormous time!!

the law didn't change. what changed was the approach towards that law.

Master, which [is] the great commandment in the law?

Jesus said unto him, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

This is the first and great commandment.

And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

in other words, this was the entire point of the law to begin with. this was what was basically stated in the jewish law and was the law that jesus restated himself. it remained. all else is just detail and may or may not belong. that's where simle discernment is needed. if you read something in the bible and it contradicts this basic law, then it's probably wrong or you need to read it from a different view.

Different laws are given for different times. People are judged according to the law given in their time. Eventually all people will be required to become perfect to live in the Kingdom of Heaven again. The after life is also prepared to allow individuals to progress toward perfection.

The law hasn't changed, if you can live perfectly from birth to death, go for it. For us lesser mortals we trust in Jesus Christ to do it for us.
Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit, and is therefore sinless. He never sinned, the only one of us who hasn't. He was so perfect that when he died, convicted and executed for a crime he did not do (Blasphemy and Sedition) God rose him from the dead. He couldn't stand to see him dead. Jesus is not our example, but our scapegoat, our propitiation (he took the Punishment in our place) and therefore our savior from Just punishment for failures we all still do merely by being human. Yes the Law is harsh, but the remedy (Jesus) is all the more generous for it's harshness. God really feels thoroughly disgusted with us, even the best of us. But he so loved the worst of us that he went to any lengths to reconcile us to Justice and Truth. Love is the simplest way of living a life more acceptable to God. In truth, it would require absolute perfection from start to finish.
