I recently replaced the tail light outer covering (having backed into a an immovable object) on my 2004 Volvo S60. And now the dashboard message keeps telling me "Bulb Position Light Failure." No bulbs are out, anywhere. The tail light assembly is exactly where it needs to be. How do I get rid of the message and turn off the yellow warning light on the dash short of taking it back to the dealer?

The car's computer thinks there is a light out, because of the means of testing the circuit.
It is unfortunate, but that is the way it works.
Try This---->
Go to VOLVO, and buy one of their bulbs. it seems stupid, but there are many manufacturers that make bulbs, and the specs differ widely. The ONLY thing that must remain the same from one to the other is the voltage, physical dimensions, and the light output. The current draw may vary as much as 1/2 amp for some bulbs. The computer uses current draw to inform of a bulb out.
If replacing the bulb with one from VOLVO doesn't work, then replace the other turn signal and brake light bulbs with matching bulbs all the way around.
Obnoxious, but this is probably the only way to deal with it.

Good Luck
