Does anyone else think the U.S. government should stop giving welfare checks to Blacks and Hispanics?

I know it may seem wrong to say but alot of blacks and hispanics choose to live off of welfare instead of getting a education and getting a decent job. Many blacks have been on welfare since it first started.

Obviously, our government could not discriminate in that way. So Welfare as you describe it would stop.

So what is welfare for? Why does our society benefit from this? If it is BAD, then why didn't we get rid of it a long time ago?

Here are some benefits of welfare
- fewer starving people in the streets
- fewer homeless people in the streets
- fewer beggars in the streets
- we don't feel bad by having and enforcing anti-vagrancy laws
- may help keep the crime rates down

Yes, it would be great if more of our poor were discouraged from drug and alcohol abuse. Yes, it would be great if we could provide training programs to get these people working. Yes, it would be great if they could GET a job; where they do not feel that the job was a CUT in services from what they got for FREE from welfare. (you mean, work more to get less?) Yes, it would be great if we could provide adequet treatment for people with mental illness, and get them BACK to work. Yes, it would be great if we could retrain disabled workers, so they could return to work with a different job. Yes, it would be great if the elderly poor could get work, and remain productive.

Take a look at the pictures and videos of the poor and starving in Africa... we simply don't have it that bad.

I've tried to not look at your remarks as racist... but that's hard to do.

No , they should not stop helping the Poor. Many races have needed the help from all the tax payers pay to help the poor. Many whites, black, asians, mexicans, have been able to survive, because of the help they have recieved. It is for the children, so they don't go without. As a taxpayer, I am happy that the poor have these benifits. Go back 60 years. If the Mother and Father were dirt poor, usually welfare would come and put the chilren in orphanages, to stay there until the parents could earn enough to take them back. Most often the children stayed in the orphanages, as the parents could not make ends meet. The Orphan trains were sad. Read about the Orphan trains. Many times the poor were placed in Poor Farms. Or the local County Home. It was so sad reading about that time of life. Our programs now help the needy. Not make them cast outs. The poor in this Country are not getting rich off the welfare check. It is humiliating to watch a parent stand in a grocery store check out line and see the old timers snicker, because he is paying cash and the poverty stricken parent is paying with a food stamp card. If you think welfare is a joy, guess again. I have never used welfare and food stamps, but I have seen how others are discriminated while using it. Most people who do use the welfare system are not proud of it. Look into their faces and you will see low self esteem and sadness .

It's not just Blacks and Hispanics who take advantage of a free ride. I'm white and I'm a southerner. Many generations of whites, both from the south and the north, know no other way of life than Welfare.

What our government needs to do is to mandate education for people who collect Welfare and assist them in securing employment. If they don't go to school or learn a craft (forms would need to be completed by their instructor giving both grade and attendance), then they don't collect Welfare. Simple as that!!!!

I don't think it should have anything to do with color or background. Welfare was started as a temporary measure to help people out in times of need. It definitely has gotten out of hand.

I think anyone on public assistance should be required to take classes and get an education toward getting employment. Also, they should be required to DO SOMETHING --a certain number of hours a week for the money they are given, any kind of public works project around their town or city. And there should be a limit on how many years you can collect in a lifetime.

I think the government should stop giving subsidies to corporations . Way more money is wasted on these fat cats than the people on welfare. Did you also know that there is a time limit for welfare?. After 5 years you can no longer collect.

No, through fact it fairly is not basically Blacks and Hispanics, and why do u think of it is the rationalization they are on welfare? i've got considered rather a number of people on welfare and it wasn't through fact they could not get an training or come across a good job. And maximum of those human beings whom u communicate of did get an training, and had a good job, yet had no determination yet to get on welfare through fact they have been given laid off from artwork through fact the boss could not discover the money for to pay them something with the fault of this jacked up financial equipment, even nevertheless they knew she/he have teenagers at domicile, with a spouse/husband and had mouths to feed. i understand some that have been finding for artwork for over a 365 days, arise each and every morning, and warfare and can't get everywhere, and then they might desire to be judged with the help of people autimatically assuming that their dumb and lazy which isn't even the case. and that i've got considered rather some white human beings on welfare to boot through fact it first began. It sounds to me like u r in simple terms attempting to be hateful and single out human beings. I think they ought to stop giving welfare checks to everyone, with the possible exception of those too physically handicapped to do any work at all--for instance, quadriplegics.
Far more to the point would be to give them training and find them jobs. I have known people on welfare, who only needed a little help and found they couldn't get any if they didn't take the whole thing. If we're going to continue playing the Welfare State, I think we need to be more stringent in researching possible abuses, to aim not at supporting them but helping them support themselves, and tailor the assistance we provide not to some 'statistical model' but to the individual's needs. Note that I say NEEDS rather than WANTS. Most of us would be shocked at how little one actually NEEDS to survive.
Plus, it's much better for the psyche and the self-esteem to haul one's own weight, rather than to let someone else haul it for you.

I also heard that there are more white people on welfare than blacks it just seems like more black people are on it because there is a smaller percentage of blacks so therefore it will appear as if more are on it.But I think they should kick all they lazy people of welfare who choose to live off of it regardless there race because a lot of people do it.

well actually, the majority of people on welfare are white people....how u ask? because they are the MAJORITY so although u may live in an urban area and see ALOT of blacks and hispanics on welfare, they are not the main ones feeding off of government dollars. and so what if black people were the first to b on welfare? how do u expect an entire race of people to jump out of slavery and just start making enought money to support thier families??? doesn't make much sense. besides.....ur not looks at the whole nation when u asked this question i suggest u do a little research PIMP!!!
