When you say "air intake port", do you mean the manifold from the air box to the carb? If so, then the float level could be wrong, floats leaking (a hole in the floats preventing them from floating), the needle and seat worn out or dirt in the seat.
-Remove the float bowl.
-Attach an auxillary fuel supply.
-Turn on the fuel.
-Lift the floats by hand.
-The fuel should stop when the floats are level with the carb/float bowl mating surface.
-There might be dirt in the needle and seat - clean, drain fuel tank, install an inline fuel filter.
-Change the needle & seat and o-ring on the seat if it has one.
-Put the floats in a cup of gas to see if they float (if you see any air bubbles, then the floats are leaking).

-The intake valve could be tight and/or leaking, blowing fuel back through the carb.
-If the carb checks out OK - then adjust the valves.
-To check if the valves are leaking -
-Bring the piston to TDC of the compression stroke (both valves closed).
-Remove the spark plug.
-With an air blow gun, blow into the plug hole.
-Listen at the muffler and air box.
-If you hear any hissing, then you need a valve job.
