You know what the difference between a junkie in the US and a junkie in a place like Siwtzerland is? (They have a national health care system that works amazingly well)
You don't have to fear the junkie in Switzerland because he doesn't need to rob you. He's considered sick, which they most certainly are, and taken care of.

if you've ever LIVED in a country with nationalized health care, you would understand why ours is still privatized.
people provide a service (in this case health care) because they get paid for doing a good job. when health care gets nationalized and doctors have no motivation... you will have to BRIBE your way into getting medical attention. its all about profit. so nationalizing health care will do nothing to help the poor, it will only increase corruption.
