What's the difference between tights and pantyhose?

Is one thicker than the other or are they the same thing? I never seem to understand.

In the US tights are usually heavier, thicker and opaque or patterened. Pantyhose are sheerand much thinner. In Brittan, tights are pantyhose, I don't think they even use the word pantyhose.

Hi Nelly. In America pantyhose are thin and sheer. They usually have a cooton panel, Tights are the same as pantyhose in England I think. But tights are thicker. They don't usually have the cotton panel and they are best in the winter. Many men also wear tights a lot in both countries. Does that help?
