If you are waiting to hear back from a Lactation Consultant or Pedatrician, you may want to consider contacting or checking out La Leche League International.
Depending on the type of birth you had milk can take three to five days to come in. The more difficult the birth the longer it could take to come in since the baby maybe sleepy for several days or it may affect the baby's suck. All of which effect milk supply and production as baby needs to feed frequently to stimulate supply.
The colostrum your baby is getting now is very rich in antibodies and nutrients. Typically a newborn's stomach can only hold something the size of a shooter marble as it is. As the get older their stomach grows. Your Lactation Consultant or local La Leche League Leader may have a visual representation of the stomach capacity of newborns and older infants which can help illustrate how much a baby needs during each feeding.
As to baby stools, when babies are little having a bowel movement everyday is normal, and it is common for some babies to go a couple of days or have some variation between those two. Really according the Breastfeeding Atlas and other sources such as the Breastfeeding Answer Book, most babies have three to four bowel movements every twenty-four hours the size of a US quarter (2.5 cm) or larger. After six weeks many babies breastfeeding well and gaining normally have fewer stools. Really the most important thing is that the baby gain weight normally which is about 6 oz per week.
Wet diapers are another indication of getting enough, before a mother's "milk comes in" a baby may have 1-2 wet diapers per day, but after the milk comes in it increases to 5-6 wet diapers disposable or 6-8 wet cloth diapers a day.

She sounds fine congratulations!! I had my daughter on a Friday and my milk came in Monday night. Just nurse her very frequently during the day (literally every 45 min to 1.5 hours), don't try to put her on any kind of schedule. Waking her frequently during the day to nurse will help to make sure she's getting enough and also help to get her days and nights straight.
Once your milk comes in she will probably poo every time you feed her. If the poo is green (don't freak out like I did LOL) it means she's getting too much foremilk and needs more hind milk. If this happens (which is really common at first because you have much more milk than you need) try expressing some into a clean cloth first. This will get your milk flowing, soften the nipple to make latching easier, and will let the baby fill up on the richer hind milk.
The lack of stool today is probably because the meconium is just about gone. As soon as your milk starts flowing she will overwhelm you with dirty diapers. I strongly recommend NO supplementing with formula. This could cause her to prefer a bottle (which is much easier to suck) and could hamper your breastfeeding success if started so soon.
Congratulations and good luck. Email me if you ever need any help, I belong to a really great breastfeeding group online and I'm sure you would love all the support of the great women on there.

It would be BEST to contact your Pediatrician with ALL questions concerning your newborn. They are so tiny & fragile it doesn't take long for their health to take a turn.
With all three of my boys, my milk came when they did. As for the stool, they went when they needed to. All three of my boys were really good eaters, when they were fussy I checked their diapers & checked the time to see if they needed feeding again. By 4 months they were needing MORE substance in their food than the breast milk provided so I started putting a little rice cereal into their bottles. By 6 months I was feeding them a little
rice cereal with a touch of baby food fruit in it. This made them more contented for longer periods of time. By 8 months I stopped breat feeding all together. I do not believe there is any benefit to a child breast feeding once they are on baby food. There are many moms who say the child gets vitamins, etc. from it, but that is only within the first month or so. With the quality of formulas today I never wondered if my boys were healthy or getting enough nutrition. Between the formula, cereal & baby food.

Well in breast feeding there is a real wide variety of "normals" It took a full week for me to become "engorged" with my first son because he was so hungry he kept up with my supply for a full week. He was so hungry I actually supplemented a 4 oz. bottle of formula in the middle of the night the first 7 days until I was overflowing. With my fourth child I never got engorged.
The one stool a day thing really only works for formula babies. Most of my children had a "pooping" day once every 3 or 4 days or so. So I would have 2-3 days of no poops just regular wet diapers and the other day he/she would have 3 or 4 big bowel movements.
If your baby is having wet diapers and is acting relatively content after a feeding she is probably fine. Your doctor will monitor her weight to make sure she is getting enough.

I breastfed all 3 of my children. It took a few weeks for my milk to come in. breastfed babies need to nurse often especially at first because there is not much there. my children had a stoohl several times a day and it was always runny that is normal with a breastfed baby. if you are concerned ask your doctor. there is no question that they havent beed asked. after a week or so your nipples will probably be very sore and it does hurt to feed the baby. the doctor can give you a cream to help and it does go away after your body gets used to it. Just stick with and you wont regret it!!! dont put the baby on a schedule just allow him/her to nurse whenever they want to, after a few months the baby will make its own schedule and you wont have to nurse as often, but it will take a little longer for the baby to get done. let the baby finish on its own or you will end up having to nurse more frequently. allowing the baby to nurse often allows your milk to come in faster to. I would suggest that you read or learn as much as you can about breast feeding and dont be shy about feeding in public after all it is the way God intended. dont be embarrassed to ask questions, and it helps to talk to someone that has breast fed, that is what kept me breastfeeding. I hope that helps.

You just had the baby so don't worry. My milk took a week to come in with all three of my kids. Call your pediatrician and ask if he/she would like you to supplement with formula while you continue to try and nurse. Once your milk comes in you will have more than enough!

This is going to sound crazy, Drink a Beer , Its either the yeast or the hops that get your milk nodes going. I wouldn't worry about the baby unless she has a fever. If you are really worried about it (like I did) give her a suppliment of Soy infant formula, I used Isomil.

It took about three to four days for my milk to come in really good, I wouldn't worry. I wouldn't worry about the pooping either. She seems to be pooping pretty okay. Just like your body has to make a adjutments after birth, so does hers.
