An average stingray is about 2 to 3 foot in diameter. The have a whip like tail that has a barb on the end and can inject a poison. Many of the smaller ones, like at Sea World, they take the barb off so that people can touch them.
The big thing about stingrays is that if you step on one, that tail will whip up and nail you, usually in the leg.
The Croc Hunter was nailed in the chest so, either the tail entered the chest and hit the heart, or the toxin release that close to the heart caused immediate cardiac arrest.
We may never really know exactly what happened. He will be missed by many people.

Here are so pics. I go to the Boston Aquarium each year and pet them. They are so cute! Just make sure that they don't touch you with that giant tail! Killed Steve Irwin today. Sooooo sad : (

I've seen small ones off the beach, large ones in an aquarium and I'm sure what Steve Erwin was dealing with was a monster.

there 2 types..one is stingray..other is manta ray..stingray can be small as mini disc..and can be as large as 1/2 human..i dunno but in malaysia..there are myty that said a group of fisherman had been saved by a large sting ray....as large as an island...

I'm sure that depends on how old it is, etc. The only one I've ever seen was about 2 feet accross, tip to tip.

its about the size of a large nan bread....but then u got that huge stinger aswell!
