Not having lived in all the other states ( only 8) I can't say, besides I am prejudiced. Iam familier with the central valleys and the south, but know the mountain county better.
Living at the base of a beautiful 14,000" sleeping volcano, and in view of a live one, beautiful lakes and rivers, no crowding, great fishing and hundreds of square miles of seldom traveled wilderness, I am well aware of the true geograpic treasures of California. And just as aware of it's massive contributions to the American economy.
As shown in the Department of Finance’s report "Cal Facts- California’s Economy and Budget in Perspective", California is the world’s sixth-largest economy. California accounts for 13% of the nation’s output, which is the largest in the world. California’s economy trails only Japan, Germany, England and France.
Don't be too quick to put California down..she is the bigest part of the USA Gross National Product. Also, the least recognized by the present US Adminstration.

The climate here in California is great, the opportunities fro recreation many and the cultural diversity is wonderful for people like me who hates bigotry. We also have a tremendous selection of fresh produce.
However, I am considering moving to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project. The winters there are very cold and I am not sure about the recreation, diversity and produce. Their state motto is "Live Free or Die." They have very low crime, good schools and if the Free State Project is successful, will be the breeding ground for move in this country back to respect for privacy rights, smaller government, lower taxes and the Bill of Rights.

I've lived in Northern California (I was born there), I have lived in Southern California. I have lived in Chocago, and I have lived in Southern Wisconsin. Now, I am in North Texas.
Yes, California is a pretty state. I will give it that. The aera around San Francisco is beautiful. However, one cannot live on senic beauty. I find the people to be shallow, and plastic, and self-absorbed. But not mean spirited.
For meaness, you have to be in Texas. I have never lived in a state which is so hateful to its own citiznes.
Wisconsin is also beautiful in it own way, but the people are woefully simplistic, and rural socialist. It is a very odd state.
I like Chicago. It is a big city, and as such a bit "cold," but it is a 24 hour city. At 2:00 A.M. you can still get a decent burger. The people there are not overly friendly, but it has a commonality that is a working class bonding. It use to be grittier then it is now, but it needed a bit of refinement. All in all, I'd rather be back in Chicago.

Yes, it has a large income and a very strong economy measured in comparaison to the world, and has a good climate, and many other things well established and rooted to serve the society. Of course there are some bad things like the San Andreas fault with the earthquakes, The motion picture industry and what it brought as corruption. But generally it is the best and the comparaison can go for pages.

That really depends upon how you see it.
Seen from the north it looks too long and hilly with too many people driving red cars.
Seen from the south it has a strong Mexican sensation with a lot of weird people walking around half naked.
Seen from the east, it's not worth looking at.
And seen from the west it looks like a mass of bathing folks each trying to get a spot in the next movie.
There must be something good about California, something that gets the rest of the country to forgive its presence., What could that be?

If you like that kind of thing it is. Another good think about California is that there a mountains just a few hours from the cities so you can go skiing. I am a New England fan myself so I think I prefer Maine. The people are nice, at least to me, and you are right on the border with Canada.

I agree with bumpocooper. I am from Maine and I think it's better there. There are movies, entertainment, clean lakes, farms and the ocean lots of the BEST fresh seafood, not softshell imported stuff. It's not too crowded, not smoggy, plenty of places to go sking and if you really, really feel the need to go to the big city, Boston is just a couple of hours away. Plus there are no earthquakes and wildfires. 4 seasons of weather. Just needs a bit of a boost economy wise.

Nice climate, nice people, nice topography, wacky politics with attendant ridiculously high taxes.
Technology? You can buy it ANYWHERE!
No, I don't agree with you (and I lived in SF for 35 years) but the better state in which I live shall remain my own little secret as I like it just as it is and don't want any more people coming here.
