In the top question you will need to find a common denominator for all of your terms. Once you have a common denominator add all the like terms in the numerator.

The second problem you have to cross multiply the 3 and 6 together and then solve 8-5r = 18 for r.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Did you mean: 3a^2 +/- 2ab?

8 - 5r = 36
1. subtract 8 from both sides
-5r = 24
2. Divide both sides by -5
r = -24/5

this simplification will beok only if i could understand yourproblem
(3a^2/4)+(2ab/3)+ab-a^2=(12a^2+8ab+12ab-12a^2)/12
20ab/12=5ab/3
8-5r=18
-5r=-10
r=2
