The vagina is a moist place and a good place for bacteria to form. HOWEVER, it doesn't smell bad if:
1. It's cleaned regularly ( a shower or bath once a day and normal washing)
2. There is no infection.

The vagina smells…like a vagina!

The vagina is self-cleaning, meaning that there is a delicate balance of bacteria and yeast, discharge is expelled throughout the menstrual cycle to clean out excess 'bad' bacteria, yeast and any dirt that gets into the vagina.
The vagina also emits oils and pheromones, the oils help to protect the mucosa (skin-like stuff in the vagina and vulva) and pheromones are how we attract the opposite sex.

As long as there is no infection and it is kept clean the vagina should never smell bad, common infections are the likes of bacterial vaginosis that will cause a 'fish-like' smell, or thrust that will cause an odour similar to a bad 'yeast-like' smell. If your vagina smells bad then it would be a sign of an infection, change in discharge is also common with infections but does not always occur, in which case you should talk to your doctor about tests and treatment.

Although the vagina is self cleaning like any other part of your body it does need a helping hand from time to time, the vulva [external female genitals] can get sweat or dead skin cells in-between the inner labia (inner lips) so you do need to wash often – this should be done with plain old fashioned water and a good wipe with your hands, nothing harsher than that, simply nothing else is needed....things like soaps, feminine washes, douches, wipes, talcs, sprays, bubble bath, commercial menstrual products etc. all may claim to help vaginal hygiene but in fact harm it.

It is only women who really have a concern about their vaginal scent, this is because of the way in which society and companies make women feel about their own bodies.

A classic example of this would be 'feminine hygiene' products such as Summers Eve or Femfresh, these products are totally unnecessary. In fact because of the difference in PH they can actually cause infections that would lead to a bad smell, chemicals in their products can also be bad for general health - this is true for any soaps etc. used around your vagina/vulva.
These products simply make women feel insecure about their bodies so that they will feel the need to buy their products, it's a vicious circle.

You should never douche because this can only aggravate the problem. And your dr will tell you this too. It could be a shift in your natural bacteria down there.... Or if you are having a discharge it could be a yeast infection. This can be caused by all sorts of things. If you have a dr they will take a sample and look at it under a microscope to determine what it is.

Odour is normal however if it's really strong then you need to go to the doctor. It may be a yeast infection. Also try to avoid underwear that are nylon, cotton is best. It might also help if you use feminine wipes.

first off, it is clean. The odor you speak off should be a naturally occuring odor the vagina has. It should not be unpleasant.

if you are a girl or know a girl who has a bad odor even after showering then she might have some sort of infection.

Remember, girls have an internal organ. Of course it will have some sort of smell given the fact it is internal.

It is because a girl's private parts are constantly creating a lubricant, and this leads to the odor. However, if the odor is very strong or bothersome, you should probably see a doctor, because there might be a yeast infection.

it may be your soap? use something gentle down there cause some soaps clean to much and your body replaces what it lost my creating more lubricant or try using pantyliner to help stay dry that's what most of the odor is wetness.

Everyone has natural odors to their body. If the odor you are emitting is accompanied by a discharge see a doctor. You can also use those personal wipes after toileting.

It is perfectly normal, however the more products eg soap ect you use down there could make it worse. There are now gentle feminine cleansers that are safe to use, that may help,
