Im 28 and 18 months ago i injured my cruiate and cartlidge in my right knee from a rather bad football tackle. i had an op and had half of my cartlidge removed. I am a player manager in a Sat football team and my knee keeps giving way and is still painful. Is it safe to keep playing ? i can't have any time off as im starting a new job but do love playing.

my advise to you is not to continue playing football, but you need some little exercises to keep your body fit. Go to the gym and be advised on an alternative. The op you had left not enough support on the knee. Visit your Doctor for an assessment to see whether you have replaced the removed catilage or not. From their you will have to do the exercises that will work for your body.

You also need some strong analgesic for your leg, slow releasing type may work better.

All the best, give us a feedback

Hello dear!
I am sorry for what happened to you! I have similar experience! Some times I play and I feel a lot of pain, for several days! Football is love and besides the pain, we like to play, hoping that the pain will forget to appear or go vacation without us! But, it is always remembering me!
Well, I would say to make exercise to strengthen the muscles around there, so that after some time you will be able to play a little! After my accident, I was couching teams! Not the same, but within the spirit!

Hi well to me you shouldnt carry on playing footy at all, alot off strain goes on footy players knee caps, ligament, cartlidge and fractured. You really need to be seen by a orthopaedic consultant where he will may want to wash your knee out under local this sometimes helps. Also you can buy splints form boots there not cheap thou for good sports splints.Once youve injured your knee well its normally for life.

Not playing football my freshman year was the biggest mistake I ever made. Missing out on one year of high school football is killer. Dont make the same mistake I did. Play football during highscool, It's the best experience ever. also track and field is > baseball.

As you'll know, the pressures on the knee joints is pretty big when playing footy. You know it already but that knee is seriously compromised now and twisting it again is very likely. If you want to play, then play but you will not be able to push yourself too much, you';l shy away from tackles and if it does go ****-up you'll be the one to blame. I think you already know your answer!

you have to be careful you may not have rested it enough since the op my dad had to have cartilage in his knee sorted and he didnt rest it enough he had it done february and he is going to continue football training soon- he says. i no the problem with no taking time off and i no the problem with love for sport but i am taking time out in november cos it is the only thing left i can do. make sure u take time out cos it can cost you your career- i've been warned.

I think you have to be realistic-you know yourself it's time to hang up those boots. If you cont to play you will do more harm than good and probably more damage in the long run.

Sounds like your retired. It's not worth losing a leg over. You decide, do you want to work or be crippled for life??
