Rust stains? Don't throw that favorite shirt away! Let a little lemon come to the rescue.
Steps:
1. Lay the rust-stained fabric over several white paper towels, which will act as a blotter and absorb the rust.
2. Cut a lemon in half and saturate the stain with the fresh lemon juice. (Bottled lemon juice will work, too.)
3. Set the fabric (with the paper towel blotter beneath) out in the sun to dry. The rust stain will disappear.
4. Launder as usual.
Warnings:
Test this method first on a small, inconspicuous area when removing rust from colored fabrics.

Rust stain
Removing rust stains can be difficult. Rust stains cannot be removed in normal laundering. Do not use chlorine bleach, chlorine bleach will make the stains permanent. Always read and follow the care instructions and any warnings on the garment label. You can follow these general tips for stain removal. Small stains may be removed with a few drops of a commercial rust remover, or by repeated applications of lemon juice and salt on the stain. Do not let dry between applications.
Rinse thoroughly and launder with a liquid laundry detergent and oxygen bleach, following directions.
If safe for fabric, boil in solution of 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar per pint of water. Rinse thoroughly.
Severe rust staining may be removed with a commercial rust remover, such as RoVer or Whink. Follow package instructions. But rust removers that contain hydrofluoric acid are extremely toxic, can burn the skin, and will damage the porclain finish on appliances and sinks.

I would suggest to first take it to a GOOD drycleaner. Get their opinion on whether or not they could clean it for you successfully.
Other than that, if you are willing to take a bit of a risk and clean it yourself...I use a product called WHINK. It works great removing rust stains on everything from fabric to concrete. Follow the directions closely and use product sparingly. It has never failed me, in fact my mother and grandmother used this product when I was a child-so it's got years of experience, so to speak.
A little goes a long way, so I bought my bottle years ago, I found it in the laundry section at the local grocery store. It comes (or it did then) in a 6 oz bottle that is brown plastic with a white cap.
I found my bottle: product is manufactured by Whink Products Co., Eldora, Iowa 50627.

Remove rust stains with one cup of muratic acid mixed with one gallon of water. Muratic acid is inexpensive, and can be purchased at Hardware stores, Pool supply stores and pharmacies. Follow instructions on the bottle such as using rubber gloves and avoid breathing the fumes. You may need to use several applications, and scrubbing will help. Good Luck.

I would try using Oxy Clean. It's a lot less harmful than regular bleach but it still would remove the rust stains. Good luck! ;)

I heard that Coca Cola works, but I've never tried it! I work at David's Bridal and when we have to clean up a dress we use rubbing alcohol. This works for most stains. Try them!
