when we were kids on the farm, we had show chickens, an aviary with tropical birds, an alligator, flying squirrels.
As an adult I currently have three prairie dogs and other assorted small rodents. Mostly fancy rats.
I have had snakes, iguanas, a skunk, dormice, spiny mice..I am sure there is something I have forgotten.
What has all this taught me? Exotics are a pain in the butt and that I could of retired on the money I spend at the vet.

I guess it would be the 5 ferrets I own now. But they aren't really all that exotic.

My husband and I once had a chinchilla, they are so cute and soft and fluffy, but to keep their skin and coat healthy, they roll in this special dust, and so it gets pretty messy.
Also, my brother-in-law got a chinchilla. His was never handled, and so it peed on everyone who came near the cage.
